MyShoebox is free for unlimited photo backup. Full resolution photo storage is available with our Pro plan. See the pricing page for details.

Privacy & Security

When you install a MyShoebox app on your computer, tablet or phone the app backs up your photos to our secure service. Your photos are encrypted during the transfer and while stored on the service. Only you can access your photos (unless you explicitly share them).

MyShoebox uses AES-256 encryption to store your photos, the same encryption used by the National Security Agency for classified 'TOP SECRET' information, seriously. During transfer, we use SSL encryption. Both are industry standard and are trusted by banks to keep data safe.

Reliability

Your photos are incredibly important and we've heard too many stories of people losing their photo collection to hard-drive failures or stolen computers. We built MyShoebox to keep your photos safe no matter what happens.

Every photo is backed up securely on the MyShoebox service. We keep multiple copies in different data centers to protect against hard-drive failure and even natural disasters.

Mobile Data & Battery Usage

Our mobile apps allow you to disable uploading photos over your cellular data connection. If you have a usage cap or pay-as-you-go data plan, you may want to limit uploads to WiFi.

We hate it when our phone's battery dies just as much as you do. By default, our Android app waits until your phone is charging to backup full resolution photos.

Image Formats

MyShoebox currently supports JPEG and PNG images. We do not support RAW image formats.

Upload Errors

Sometimes MyShoebox reports errors while uploading. These are mostly caused by temporary connectivity issues, but are sometimes caused by more serious issues like corrupt image files.

Our apps will automatically retry failed uploads. If problems persist, you can contact support.

Exporting Photos

You can download any of your photos from within the application. Our Mac and Windows apps download the maximum resolution available in your plan. Our mobile apps download a size great for viewing on a phone.

We plan on building an easy way to download all of your photos in one big batch, but it isn't ready yet. We'll update this FAQ with instructions as soon as it is ready to go.

Deleting Photos

You can delete a photos from within the Mac or Windows apps, or by signing into the MyShoebox website. We'll update our mobile apps to support deleting photos soon.
